Hey guys and girls, it’s been a year since airing the TV Series. And while the hopes of having another season of Shingeki no Kyojin is unclear, I think it’s time for me to watch some OVA series for the time being.
In any case, this is the start of the new OVA Series. Let’s hope that Kodansha and Wit Studio won’t make it long like Seitokai Yakuindomo.
Anyways, the first episode took place between Ep. 3 and 4, and it tells the story of Hanji capturing a Titan. That was before she got Sauney and Bean.
Moving on, despite Erwin’s disapproval, Hanji continues to pursue her personal goal of capturing one Titan for experiment.
Oh, and she’ll do anything at the cost of her comrades, which pissed Levi off since he doesn’t want his soldiers as expendable bait.
As they finish cleaning up Hanji’s mess and continuing the expedition, they found a corpse inside a tree and a diary that belonged to the dead Recon Corps soldier.
This is where the second half of this episode begins as the diary chronicles Ilse Langner and her encounter with the Titan that Hanji supposed to capture.
While Ilse’s encounter with the abnormal Titan is short-lived, it gives insights that not all Titans acted on their natural instincts of devouring humanity.
One, this particular Titan can speak human language which surprised Ilse as she writes it on her diary. And two, it can show basic forms of compassion as it puts Ilse’s corpse inside the tree, rather than devouring it completely.
Oh yes, there’s one more thing that would be important in the future, let alone included on the proposed second season. This abnormal Titan mentioned Ymir since Ilse slightly resembles one of Eren’s mates from the 104th Trainee Corps.
It’s gonna be an interesting plot device for the second season. Heck, it might even shock viewers too.
But anyways, that’s the first episode of Shingeki no Kyojin OVA Series. As you can see, Hanji effectively captured Titans without sacrificing a soldier.
You may thank Ilse for changing the way Titans are captured. Of course, that depends on Hanji’s insane logic!
