Ah Haruhi Suzumiya… It’s been like 9 years since I started watching Kyoto Animation’s light novel adaptation. Time sure flies when I remember watching that Hare Hare Yukai ending sequence and not to mention having to sit and watch 8 episodes on Endless Eight thanks to Kadokawa!
Anyways, the Haruhi Suzumiya franchise has a new TV series, except that it’s a spin-off that has some elements from the 4th novel (which was adapted as a movie back in 2010).
So as you can see, it’s all about Yuki Nagato as she’s not the usual stoic character from the original. Instead, Yuki-chan is expressive, clumsy, and sometimes being punished by a not-so murderous Ryouko Asakura. Um, you forgot that you have a male guest!
For the presentation, Satelight did a great job on the visuals, although I might get used to its new character design in future episodes. However, I think there’s something missing on this spin-off title like not having the original soundtrack from the 2006 TV series.
Not only that, but Kyon’s unreliable narrating is missing on this spin-off. Well, good thing he still can deliver those snarky comments just like old times!
Anyways, it’s just the beginning of this spin-off series as Yuki-chan, Kyon, and Ryouko are preparing for a Christmas party at the club room.
Also, would it be nice if Yuki-chan invite Mikuru Asahina and Tsuruya-san. The more the merrier!
With that said, I can’t wait for the next episode and I’m hoping that Haruhi Suzumiya will make her formal return!
