Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin Episode #02

Oh look, it’s young Amuro Ray as he’s going to Side 7 together with his father Tem Ray!

In any case, it’s been a while since watching and blogging Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin. Now that I’ve finished watching Ep. 2, it’s time for my thoughts on that episode with this blog post.

So let’s start with Artesia Som Deikun as she’s settled in Earth easily under the name of Sayla Mass.

While she’s cheerful and somewhat friendly towards locals, Sayla is doing these things is because she’ll someday see her mother Astraia again.

But despite living peacefully together in Earth with her brother Casval, who is now known under the pseudonym of Edward Mass, seems that she couldn’t escape danger as Sayla is being targeted by assassins, which they killed Jimba Ral.

Luckily for her, Edward Mass took one of the assassins down on his own. Even though he somewhat killed an enemy with his own hands, it’s inevitable that Edward would become the menace later in his life…

Anyways, that incident have prompted Teobolo Mass to the Texas Colony in Side 5 Loum, which he and his two adopted kids were helped by the Yashima Family. For those who watched the original series, it’s Mirai Yashima and her father Shu Yashima.

In any case, the Mass family finally settled down in the Texas Colony, which they befriended a certain Aznable family.

Speaking of the Aznable family, young Edward met the oldest son of the family named Char. Sure that they looked the same at first glance including the same age, but the main difference is that both Edward Mass and Char Aznable have different eye color.

On the other hand, Char Aznable wanted to enroll at a military school in Side 3 and become a successful soldier there. Of course, Edward might have an idea there later on…

Back in Side 3, Crowley Hamon visited Astraia Tor Deikun in which her body is somewhat weakened due to having stress on being imprisoned by Zeon Zum Deikun’s legal wife Roselucia Deikun, who passed away due to her age.

While she talked Crowley about their young days at Club Eden, Astraia wanted to see her children for one last time. Unfortunately, her weak body couldn’t make it happen.

Meanwhile, here’s Ramba Ral as he was invited by Dozle Zabi to test out the latest Zeon technology that’ll surpass the Guntank.

That’s right, a Mobile Worker. Oh and it’s not just an ordinary Mobile Worker, but a testbed for future development of Zeon’s newest machinery: Mobile Suit. I have to say that Hajime Katoki’s design of an early Mobile Suit sure looks cumbersome at first glance, sort of a souped-up humanoid version of a construction machine.

However, both Ramba Ral and Ortega push those workers to its limits, which is great news for Dozle as it’ll paved way for Zeon’s Mobile Suit that’ll change the course of history. I’m talking about the Zaku by the way and speaking of that certain Mobile Suit, both Mobile Workers have heads similar to the MS-04 Prototype Zaku and/or the MS-05 Zaku I.

In any case, all things must come to an end in order to move forward…

…as Sayla’s mother Astraia and her pet cat Lucifer passed away. She’s looking forward for that day where Artesia could meet her mother again, but Astraia have finally breathed her last as her body couldn’t take it anymore.

And as for her pet cat Lucifer, it’s a devastating blow that her only true companion would die when Artesia needed Lucifer the most in times of sadness.

Meanwhile for Edward Mass, it seems that Astraia’s death was the final straw as Casval Rem Deikun have finally decided to carry his revenge against the Zabi family. In fact, his personality has changed into a dangerous person as Casval is sick of being tailed by the family who killed his father.

And so, he decides to leave Artesia and the Texas Colony to join a military school in Side 3 together with Char Aznable. Of course, being one of the last members of the Deikun family might pose a danger towards the blue-eyed Casval, but it seems that he has other plans for that. You’ll find out on the next episode!

For now, this episode ends on a depressing note as Artesia Som Deikun, now known as Sayla Mass, was left alone by herself. While she has Teobolo Mass as her adoptive father, Sayla’s abandonment by her brother Casval would signal her change of attitude into a strong woman.

But that’s another story for the time being as Episode 3 will make its debut next year. In the meantime, there’s Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans and an anime adaptation of Mobile Suit Gundam: Thunderbolt to keep myself busy for the time being.
