Fall 2015: The end of the rest…

This post is brought you by μ’s as they’re set to appear on this year’s 66th Kohaku Uta Gassen later. While I’m excited to see them perform at the NHK Hall, don’t forget that there are notable artists performing this year such as Rebecca, AKB48, and X Japan!

By the way, this fan-art is based on one of Aya Uchida’s tweets just to let you know.

01. Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry

Let’s start with Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry with Ikki Kurogane tipping the odds against the likes of Ayase Ayatsuji, Donrou Academy’s Kuraudo Kurashiki, and Touka Toudou in his favor. Of course, the last battle against Touka Toudou wasn’t easy as Ikki must face the wrath of the Kurogane family, who treat him as shit for being F-Rank. His father Itsuki disowned him while Mamoru Akaza tortured him both physically and emotionally by smearing his reputation and staging kangaroo courts like there’s no tomorrow.

Ultimately, Ikki got back up from being an emotional wreck with the help of his friends and Stella Vermillion. He not only defeated the ace of Hagun Academy, but Ikki kissed Stella after the match. Oh and here’s the kicker, Stella’s father approved of having Ikki not only her boyfriend but her betrothed as well, something that Mamoru Akaza couldn’t believe it as he was booted out from the Ethics Committee. Of course, the Kurogane family will continue to treat Ikki as shit because of their pride as a Blazer.

Anyways, SILVER LINK did a great job of adapting this light novel series from the GA Bunko label compared to a certain Anti-Magic Academy. I mean, Shin Oonuma and his staff did some stunning visuals like this one where Ikki prepares to unleash his secret technique Itto Rasetsu. However, I feel that it was placed at the wrong time as Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry was aired together with The Asterisk War which has the same premise during Fall 2015. Will this series have another season, only the Blu-ray sales will know the answer…

02. Osomatsu-san

Next up is Osomatsu-san where the Matsuno sextuplets are spending the holidays by themselves… with horrible results. C’mon, they don’t have girlfriends and vent their frustration by becoming zombies during Christmas Day, something that their parents are terrified about it!

But hey, this show got some great moments like Todomatsu getting a part-time job at Sutabaa (or Starbucks) just to impress the co-workers (and failed to make a good one thanks to his asshole brothers), to Jyushimatsu having a girlfriend until she rejects his advances due to her shady past, that almost contemplating for suicide if it wasn’t for Jyushimatsu saving her. But hey, Jyushimatsu made his ex-girlfriend smile again before returning to the countryside.

Yes, Osomatsu-san has great moments and Studio Pierrot did well on adapting the classic gag manga to the modern audience with fleshed-out characters coming from the Matsuno sextuplets, but the best part is that this revival series will continue in January 2016 for the second half so there’s more hilarity coming from them as well as the supporting cast like Iyami, Chibita, and even Dekapan!

03. Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans

Moving onto Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans as the Tekkadan move closer towards their goal of escorting Kudelia Aina Bernstein to Earth in one piece. While Tekkadan gained allies in the form of Teiwaz, especially Naze Turbine and his all-female crew, it wasn’t easy for Orga Itsuka’s group as the must deal with Gjallarhorn’s advances as well as pirates lurking around.

Apart from that, Tekkadan will have to face some more harsh reality since Orga and Mikazuki are still considered children. Sure that there are some who treated badly outside from Tekkadan like the Brewers pirate gang, but Orga accept those children as if they’re his brothers even though they’re once enemies. On the other hand, these kids have dignity even after death as Tekkadan held a funeral not just for their fallen comrades but for the children who are caught in the crossfire like Akihiro’s long-lost brother Masahiro, who was killed by his boss Kudel Cadel in which he got his comeuppance from Mikazuki Augus.

Speaking of Mikazuki Augus, he somewhat kissed Kudelia Aina Bernstein after the funeral. Of course, my concern is that he’s starting to enjoy killing people and coupled with his stoic personality, it’s getting a bit unsettling for him. In any case, let’s hope that when Mikazuki confronted McGillis Fareed (who is betrothed with Almiria Bauduin and will have a Gundam-type Mobile Suit later on), he won’t become a stoic monster who loves fighting!

04. Shingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou

Finally, let’s end this post with the Shingeki no Kyojin Middle School spin-off.

While it has some moments like Bertolt Hoover having a crush on Annie Leonhart during Episode 9, as well as recreating this scene where Eren carries a key instead of a boulder just to get his cheeseburger back, I wish Wit Studio and Kodansha should be working on Season 2 of the main series. In the meantime, maybe I should watch the 2-part “No Regrets” OVA episodes.

Anyways, see ya next year!
