“Am I popular now?”
Not to be confused with another show where it focused on a girl who yearns to be popular, Watashi ga Motete Dousunda (or Watamote) is about Kae Serinuma who is very popular with the boys.
Of course, it’s not like Kae is popular to begin with…
In fact, Serinuma was a chubby girl who has a secret hobby: being a fujoshi.
And look how Kae’s expression when she sees two boys getting close to each other.
To the normal people, it was just a friendly chatter but for Serinuma, they’re flirting as Kae wants to ship both boys and make yaoi doujinshi out of them!
Anyways, time for Kae Serinuma to watch her favorite show: Mirage Saga!
Unfortunately, watching the latest episode of Mirage Saga would change Serinuma forever…
…once she learned that her favorite character Shion has died. For normal viewers, they’ll get over it pretty soon.
But for Kae-chan, it was a shocking revelation that she got stressed over it, locking herself up for a week until she lost a ton of weight.
Don’t know how Serinuma lost some kilograms unless she ate small portions during her one-week isolation, but at least it was a blessing in disguise once Kae returned to school!
In any case, Kae Serinuma has returned to school and everyone is surprised that she became a hottie, including her friend Amane Nakano.
See, it’s a blessing that a character’s plot-related death has changed Serinuma’s physical appearance!
Also, she’s invited by some of the hottest guys in her school as Kae-chan is dressed up in her nice clothes, which were borrowed by Amane as her outfit is a bit loose after cutting down some fat.
Anyways, Kae is invited by not one, but four of the hottest guys ever: Yuusuke Igarashi, Nozomu Nanashima, Hayato Shinomiya, and Asuma Mutsumi.
Yeah, they’re so ikemen that they also did the opening theme! Well, the voice actors who played these characters who sang the main theme of Watamote, which is not related to Tomoko Kuroki by the way!
Of course, some things never change as Kae Serinuma still has her yaoi goggles to see two guys getting close to each other. At least she didn’t get a nosebleed or a drool!
So what’s my initial thoughts on this episode? Well, it was surprisingly good as I thought it’ll be, especially when Yu Kobayashi’s voice fits better when playing as Kae Serinuma. Still, let’s hope that it gets better on the next episode!
