Cosplay Mania 2018

Hello everyone, I’m here to tell you about the greatest anime convention in the Philippines as it’s celebrating its 10 years with Cosplay Mania.

This will be my fourth time covering this anime convention ever since I went there back in 2015 and really, this one might be memorable as I saw some interesting booths but also saw many guests from Japan. With that said, I’ll be covering both days of Cosplay Mania 2018!

Now first of all, the reason why Cosplay Mania 2018 is very special is because a voice actress has come home.

I’m talking about Megumi Nakajima as it’s her first time visiting the Philippines, which her mother was born in that country. Basically, Mamegu is half-Filipina.

But we’ll talk about that her later as I show you this section full of memorabilia from the past 10 years of Cosplay Mania.

Anyways, Cosplay Mania started in 2008 and I was a college student at that time. It was the year that Macross Frontier was released on television, as well as Crunchyroll changed their model from hosting various shows by users to providing anime straight from the creators themselves. It was truly one of those years that changed the industry forever.

But now, I present you some memorabilia and the only thing I could recognize is the organizer IDs of Cosplay Mania 2015 and 2016.

Still, it’s nice to see some merchandise from Cosplay Mania’s past events. All I can say is that I’m hoping that this event can stick around for another 10 years or more!

On the other hand, here’s one interesting booth where it showed two Ducati motorcycles, just to promote the Venom film. By the way, these two furries are just posing and really, they did a great job of it!

Let’s go to Day 2 where I went to the EX Stage to see a wotagei demonstration sponsored by Lumica, creators of their famous cyalume glow sticks and their Daisenko Blades which I bought the latter.

Now, I have to say that doing wotagei is hard because I’m no longer young and you need to have fast reflexes to dance with these professional wotagei dancers. But hey, I have fun learning some wotagei moves even though it’s hard.

And speaking of wotagei, I saw some glimpses of the Cyalume World Battle at the Lumica booth. Gotta say that I was impressed on seeing these competitors do their stuff. Wish them luck on whoever qualified for next year’s world championship in Tokyo, Japan!

And now, it’s time for the main event which is held at the SP Hall. This hall is where the cosplayers compete, as well as conducting short interview with various guests.

But, SP Hall is where the JAM Concert takes place where in addition to Megumi Nakajima, there’s also Zwei, AiRI, and fhána.

And here’s what this year’s SP Hall looks like up-close as I took a picture of it before the concert. I’m glad that I bought a VIP ticket but as always, I’m not gonna show you what the performance looks like because I don’t want to get booted out and have my phone confiscated. Now I’m not gonna talk much about the JAM Concert, but all I can say that it was a blast.

Anyways, Day 1 is where Zwei and AiRI perform on that day and it’s quite a show where they not only perform songs from Robotics;Notes and Keijo respectively, but they made a collaboration by performing Neon Genesis Evangelion’s opening song “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis”. It was truly a surprising concert for Day 1!

As for Day 2, I enjoyed it quite a lot with performances from Megumi Nakajima and fhána that poured my heart and soul on it. From Mamegu’s famous songs like “Seikan Hikou” and new ones like “Saturday Night Question”, to fhána’s greatest hits such as “Aozora no Rhapsody” and even their recent songs from their album “World Atlas”, it was truly an unforgettable night in Day 2!

And that’s about it for this year’s Cosplay Mania. What a truly remarkable event that celebrates 10 years of holding cosplay competitions and other things related to video games and anime.

Here’s for another 10 years of Cosplay Mania and I hope that if there’s something interesting, I’ll go there whether it’ll be next year or in the future!
