Winter 2018: The rest of the field… 2nd Half!

This post is brought you by two iconic characters from Dragon Ball, the now-canonized Broly and *gasp* Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta! You know, it would be fine if the latter kept it under wraps, but fans can’t stop spoiling the existence of the now-canon Gogeta. Even though I’m not a huge Dragon Ball fan, I’ve enjoyed watching Dragon Ball Super: Broly in early February but if fans want more Dragon Ball Super, I don’t think it’ll happen anytime soon. I mean, there’s Gegege no Kitaro still airing in Fuji TV.

By the way, I’m not gonna talk about W’z for the time being, but I’ll catch up to that series soon before the end of March. And with that, it’s time for the halfway point on some anime shows airing in Winter.

01. Hinomaru Zumou

Now let’s start things off with Hinomaru Zumou as we’ve reached the national high school sumo tournament. While Odachi High School have prepared for this moment after spending their time training in Nagoya, there are some killers who are here at the tournament to topple them down, including the reigning champion Tottori Hakuro High School and its two-time high school yokozuna Shidou Tennouji. And here’s the thing though as Shidou was once short back in elementary school, but the sumo gods gave Tennouji a growth spurt and dominated the sport through middle school and high school.

Unfortunately for Hinomaru Ushio, he got the short end of the stick as Ushio got defeated by Tennouji in the first round of the individual competition, losing his chance of becoming a professional sumo wrestler. Oh and as for Tennouji, he also lost to another national treasure named Sousuke Kuze, the son of a famous yokozuna Yamatokuni. Even though he lost that match in the individual competition, Hinomaru still has a chance in the team competition where he has teammates to back him up, although I’m worried that Ushio can’t wrestle again if his injury on his left arm worsens.

So with that said, this series is going down the wire as Odachi High School will face Tottori Hakuro High School in the team competition. With both teams all tied up, whoever wins will face Eiga University High School where Sousuke Kuze and his team awaits. Man, I can’t wait for that!

02. Egao no Daika

Moving onto Egao no Daika where I’ll show you the other protagonist, Stella Shining. This soldier from Grandiga Empire has a story to tell as she was born in the Kingdom of Soleil, but got separated by her biological mother Layla. Many thought that she died but Stella is actually alive, although she was cast away by her foster parents and became a soldier fighting for the Grandiga Empire.

Speaking of the Grandiga Empire, they have overthrown the Kingdom of Soleil although they didn’t capture Princess Yuki Soleil as she fled to another country. Of course, the empire won’t just capture the kingdom and end the war until they got rid of anything related to Soleil, aside from capturing the newly-improved chrars from the kingdom. In fact, the emperor of Grandiga wants nothing more than to rule his subjects with an iron fist. You know that his method of ruling the country won’t do any favors.

In any case, let’s see how this anime plays out until the end because I have a feeling that there would be a tragic ending.

03. Mob Psycho 100

Next up is the second season of Mob Psycho 100 where Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama is having a drastic change in his life. Sure that he’s hanging out with clubmates, but because of them Shigeo changed a lot that when he’s confronted by a powerful evil spirit named Keiji Mogami, Kageyama resisted Mogami’s manipulation and exorcise him. Well, Mob didn’t exorcise him completely as Keiji Mogami was captured by someone from the Claw Organization.

Oh and as for Arataka Reigen? He became a popular psychic after ditching Mob… for a short time because someone destroyed his reputation on live television! But then again, they became friends again because even though Reigen doesn’t have any psychic powers, he’s not some asshole or anything because Arataka believes in Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama.

Even though Studio Bones are still cranking up some deranged, yet magnificent animation, I have to say that there’s still some character development for the main characters. However, I’ve just reached the halfway point and man, I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Now then, let’s end this post with Hanamaru Kunikida from Love Live! Sunshine!!, my second favorite character from Aqours as Hanamaru won the center position of the 4th single!

Even though my favorite character Dia Kurosawa didn’t win this time, I enjoyed participating to the 4th single center elections. But anyways, congratulations to Zuramaru and I’ll see you next month for the conclusion!
