It’s time for a two-part flashback episode where a young Senku Ishigami wants to go to the moon.
Joining Senku is Byakuya Ishigami who wanted to go to space, but failed to do so because he got leg cramps during the physical test at JAXA.
By the way, both Senku and Byakuya are not related by blood but nevertheless, Byakuya loves his son very well that he supports Senku’s endeavors.
Of course, Senku wants to help his step-father becoming an astronaut.
With the help of Taiju Ooki, Senku will create something that would stimulate and move muscles using electricity. Not sure it’ll work on water though.
After a few days of tinkering at his lab, Senku finally develop an electrode suit that would help Byakuya swim without succumbing to leg cramps.
And thanks to Senku’s suit, Byakuya Ishigami managed to swim and pass the physical exam. Of course, passing the physical exam is one thing ’cause there’s more to come for Senku’s father.
But after 5 years of hard work, Byakuya Ishigami has finally become an astronaut as he says goodbye to his son on live television.
Of course, it’s also available in live stream where everyone can watch the Soyuz rocket launch towards the International Space Station, as long as you have a smartphone or a tablet.
For Senku, he’s happy that his father has finally achieved his dream of becoming an astronaut. Of course, he’ll join Byakuya someday once he graduated high school and become an astronaut.
Now then, it’s time for Byakuya Ishigami to meet the crew aboard the International Space Station. You got Connie Lee, Darya Nikitina, and her husband Yakov Nikitin as they welcome their new crew member.
Speaking of Byakuya Ishigami, he didn’t go to the space station by himself as Byakuya brought a cosmonaut named Shamil Volkov. Also, he brought a woman along the ride.
Said woman happened to be the famous American musician named Lilian Weinberg where she complains that the space station is cramped that she can’t move around much.
Of course, she’s just kidding as Lilian is quite a nice person to begin with, joining Byakuya when it comes to cracking up jokes. Also, Shamil doesn’t join on Byakuya’s jokes because he’s one serious cosmonaut.
In any case, looks like Byakuya will have a fun time at the International Space Station.
Unfortunately, he and his fellow astronauts aboard the International Space Station are forced to watch the entire world being engulfed in this strange light, turning every living creature into stone.
And while they’re the lucky ones since the petrification light didn’t reach them, they can’t survive at the space station for much longer ’cause it’ll break down eventually.
So, Byakuya Ishigami came up a plan of action that will save themselves from being stuck at the space station forever.
And that’s by going back to Earth and find a way to de-petrify the entire human race. Sure that de-petrifying humanity will take a long time, but Byakuya’s idea of returning to Earth is the only way to save themselves.
First up, it’s time for Lilian Weinberg, Shamil Volkov, and Connie Lee to descend to Earth as they went aboard the Soyuz spacecraft.
Unfortunately, their landing is way off the mark as their spacecraft went to the sea. Even worse is that the oxygen might not last long and they’ll die.
Luckily, Byakuya Ishigami came to the rescue as he and the Nikitin couple safely landed on Earth and now he’s about to rescue his fellow crew members.
Gotta say that Byakuya did the right decision to return to Earth despite the risk involved. Now, it’s up to him on pulling Lilian, Shamil, and Connie out from the module.
Oh yeah, here’s both Yakov Nikitin and Darya Nikitina as they wait for their crew members to arrive at this uninhabited island.
Fortunately, Byakuya Ishigami brought the remaining crew members at the island. Of course, they only thing that they need to do is to survive ’cause they won’t expect anyone rescuing them.
And so, Byakuya Ishigami and his fellow astronauts founded Ishigami Village where their knowledge is passed down through their children and future generations via the Hundred Tales.
Even though the survivors had some nice moments like Shamil Volkov marrying to Connie Lee, they didn’t live long enough to save everyone from petrification. Both Yakov Nikitin and Darya Nikitina disappeared when trying to sail over the mainland, while Connie Lee and her husband Shamil Volkov died from pneumonia. Come to think of it, I feel that their descendants either inherited the illness or that the island is filled with bacteria that caused pneumonia. Of course, it’s all over now thanks to Senku and his sulfa drug.
In any case, it’s nice to see how Ishigami Village started. But you know what, I have to give kudos to Byakuya Ishigami for saving his crew members, but also passed down his knowledge to his descendants like Ruri, Kohaku, and Chrome.
Speaking of Chrome, he couldn’t believe that his ancestors went to space, not to mention that one of them happened to be Senku’s father.
On the other hand, I wonder what happened to Senku’s biological parents? Did they abandon him or did they died from some accident? Whatever the case, I’m glad that he had Byakuya as his father.
Now then, let’s move onto the present as Ruri asked the new village chief to join her as they visit one of the village’s important place.
This is the village cemetery where Ruri’s ancestors laid rest there, including Byakuya Ishigami and his fellow astronauts.
As per tradition (I don’t know if this is canon), Ruri pay their respects to her ancestors.
But more importantly, Ruri told Senku about the last message from Byakuya Ishigami, saying that his science and the friends he made will help him build an exciting world.
Speaking of Senku, I think he felt his father’s presence as Byakuya’s soul is behind him.
And sure that his last message to his son is very uplifting, I think Byakuya wants Senku to carry out his mission of reviving humanity from petrification and bringing back modern civilization.
Even though he joined with the rest of his crew up in heaven, Byakuya is one amazing person where his legacy continues throughout the entire village!
And as for Senku Ishigami, I say that he really missed his step-father. But you know what, he’ll create a kingdom of science now that he has the entire village helping him!
Anyways, it’s time for a party as the entire village is celebrating the ascension of Senku as the new village chief.
Oh yeah, and here’s Gen Asagiri where he was not originally invited, but the villagers dragged him anyway to drink some alcohol. Um guys, Gen prefers drinking cola.
But you know what, I think the reason why Gen Asagiri went to Ishigami village is because he wants to deliver some bad news to Senku.
Sure that everyone is celebrating Senku’s ascension as the new village chief, but Senku wants to know what Tsukasa Shishio’s next plan of action.
Well, Gen Asagiri told Senku that Tsukasa Shishio and his Empire of Might is gonna invade Ishigami Village. And you know what that means, it’s inevitable for Senku and Tsukasa Shishio to fight for the future of humanity.
Man, it’s interesting that Ishigami Village was built from the survivors of a space mission and it’s funny that the village is now being led by Byakuya’s adopted son. Of course, I’m now interested on Senku’s plan of action when dealing with Tsukasa Shishio ’cause you know that he’s the strongest man ever.
Well then, that’s about it for Episodes 16 and 17 of Dr. Stone as I’ll see you next time!
