This is Kraft Lawrence, a travelling merchant who’s about to witness an important event in his life. Anyways, this is Spice and Wolf where it’s a new anime adaptation of a classic Dengeki Bunko light novel series.
Oh and as for that important event? This is just the tip of the iceberg as you have Yarei performing his duties as Holo, a wolf who appears after getting the last batch of grain.
Despite performing a pagan ceremony, this town is thriving as they have a bountiful harvest for this season, meaning that Holo’s role in providing a blessing is diminished. But wait, where’s Holo?
Well, there it is as Holo appears as a cute girl with wolf ears and tail while eating a beef jerky. Sure that Lawrence is shocked to see a naked girl hiding under a cart full of fur, but he won’t believe that she’s the wolf who appears in pagan festivals.
That’s until Holo eats a sliver of grain where she transforms into a giant wolf. With that said, it’s the merchant meeting the wise wolf in this new anime adaptation by Passione.
Of course, what about the villagers who still believe in Holo the Wise Wolf?
Well, seems that they don’t need Holo anymore as Yarei explains that the pagan ritual has evolved into a festival where people drink, dance, and have fun.
And to drive it home further, their village is being led by a new lord who taught them new farming techniques, meaning that there’s no need for them to pray towards Holo for a good harvest. Oh, and they sell wheat to various merchants like Lawrence for example.
In any case, it’s sad that the villagers are starting to forget about Holo’s existence, but that’s okay for the wise wolf as Holo plans to leave the village and head back to her homeland.
Of course, she will have to travel across various places including churches where they don’t like some villages continuing their pagan rituals. Oh, and they’ll persecute anyone who don’t believe in a single god… or claiming to be deities like Holo for example.
Good thing Lawrence has spare clothes for Holo to wear, not to mention hide her ears and tail ’cause people are still scared of seeing a wolf girl.
And speaking of Holo, I have to say that she’s doing fine as the wise wolf has finally tasted freedom instead of staying at the village for eternity.
Then again, I think Lawrence should buy another set of clothes for his companion in case he and Holo got drenched in the rain.
One last thing, it’s time to introduce a rookie merchant named Zheren where he told Lawrence that a new batch of Trenni silver coins are being circulated across the port town of Pazzio. Oh yes, Zheren added that the new batch of silver coins has a higher value than the previous one.
While Zheren’s claims are too good to be true, it seems that this rookie merchant is lying as Holo knows it upon looking at the merchant’s actions, speech, and even mannerism. So yes, I think Kraft Lawrence will have to keep his eyes peeled at all times because who knows when a swindler scammed him to hell.
Anyways, I really enjoy watching the 2024 version of Spice and Wolf. While it’s a nostalgic trip seeing Lawrence and Holo again, I think Kadokawa and Passione will go the even greater lengths in giving a full experience with this new anime adaptation.
